What do our MYX Mag’s August-September cover artists have in common?

Well apart from the fact that they’re both totally awesome, Chicosci and Sugarfree are both veterans in the local music scene, they both have had line-up changes over the years and they both have new albums out!

Check out Chicosci’s awesome pictorial! The band graces the cover for the second time (but it’s vocalists Miggy Chavez’s third and new drummer Macoy Estacio’s first!), and this time, they talk about their nationwide tour with other bands, and why it took them three years to release their new album Fly Black Hearts!

MYX bids farewell to the King of Pop

MYX, the number one music channel in the Philippines, along with billions of fans of the King of Pop will bid farewell to the legendary musical icon, Michael Jackson by airing the live coverage of “The Michael Jackson Memorial,” also simulcast via Studio 23, on July 8 (Wednesday) starting 1:00am (Manila Time). The memorial service for Michael Jackson will take place at Staple Center in Los Angeles.

Special replays of the said event will also be aired on MYX on the same day at 1:00pm and 10:00pm.

MYX will be also be airing "Farewell, Michael Jackson: The MYX Music Memorial" on July 11 (Saturday) at 12:01am. Due to insistent public demand, MYX will play Michael Jackson's biggest music videos for 24-hours. This special will feature the King of Pop's songs, commentaries, trivia and updated interviews from local artists regarding the passing of a true icon and his contribution to the world of music.

Regular programming on MYX resumes on July 12 (Sunday) starting at 12:00a.m.

Meet the 2008 MYX VJs

The judges' scores have been computed and the viewers' have texted-in their votes. After a baptism of fire that tested their mettle – weeks of brain wracking tasks, tongue-twisting challenges, body winding activities on and off cam proved to be difficult as well as pleasurable and well worth it for the newest batch of 2008 MYX VJs namely : Robi Domingo, Monica Yncierto, Chino Liu-Pio and Bianca Roque.

The much anticipated MYX VJ Search 2008 Finals Night came to a close with a big bang last October 21, Tuesday at the Trinoma Mall Activity Center where families and fans were treated to a hip and electrifying event with performances by crowd favorite bands: Hale, Sandwich, MYMP, Sugarfree, Hilera plus Nyoy Volante and Kyla that sent the mallers on their feet and into a party mode.

Added to the grand announcement is the unveiling of the second anniversary issue of Myx Mag, the biggest-selling music magazine in the country. As a way of thanking its loyal readers and supporters, Myx Mag’s October – November issue is a very special offering as it is all about one of the greatest Pinoy bands of all time – the well loved Eraserheads.

The MYX Music Awards 2008 was a blast and if you weren’t there, our post-event feature is sure to make you feel as if you were. In search of Maria

Now that he's playing the lead role of Tony in West Side Story, Christian Bautista is now on the lookout for his Maria in the STAGES production of popular Broadway musical. Auditions are now ongoing for the female lead along with the supporting roles of Anita, Bernardo, Riff, etc.

Open auditions for singers and dancers ages 17-30 will be conducted on March 29-30, 10 am to 5 pm at Stand Studio, Brahma Building, 172 Mabini Street, Addition Hills, San Juan, Manila. For further audition inquiries, call Judith of STAGES at tel. no. 818-1111 loc. 225.

Maria must be pretty and slim. She has to be a soprano 1, preferably with classical or musical theater voice training. Anita must be a strong dancer and an alto with impressive acting skills. Bernardo must also be a strong dancer and actor. Riff must be mestizo with strong dancing and gymnastic background.

Aspirants must bring 3R colored photo, resume, and minus one CD. Singers must sing a song from any stage musical.

STAGES’ production of West Side Story is set to run at Meralco Theater in September-October 2008.

Behind the Scenes: RJ Jimenez's new music video Superstar

Pinoy Dream Academy scholar RJ Jimenez and his band shot the music video for their single Superstar last January 17. Directed by Mark Ocampo, the video was shot on location in Vista Verde, Cainta.
MYX VJ Nikki Gil plays the "leading lady" in the video and she's not too shy about showing us her goofier side. Enjoy these photos from the video shoot.

Julia Fordham at Ayala

Jazz luminary Julia Fordham is in town for a series of shows with Ayala Malls for the month of Ferbuary. She also took the opportunity to launch her 10th album, China Blue.
The “Jewel of Pop-Jazz” recorded her first single on her 25th birthday and hasn’t looked back since she wowed audiences with Happy Ever After. This was followed by hits like Love Moves in Mysterious Ways (which was covered by local singer Nina), Invisible War, and Porcelain. Her unique and soothing sound will definitely bring the romance with her shows at the Ayala Malls.
Her 10th album is loaded with Julia’s own compositions created with the help of talented multi-instrumentalist Grant Mitchell. The album was initially launched via NovaTunes, an internet download service, since Julia believes that one needs to embrace changes in the music scene. The album will also be available on iTunes and other online retailers.

Aria Clemente debuts on MYX

Little Big Superstar alum and World Championship of Performing Arts (WCOPA) Junior champion Aria Clemente has launched her first music video, Climb Every Mountain, on MYX. Her version of the The Sound of Music classic is a cut from the certified Platinum album Kris Aquino: Love & Inspiration from Universal Records.

Mo Zee directed the music video which showcases the 12-year-old singer's journey to the WCOPA in Hollywood, California. From her training days in Trumpets Playshop to her appearance on ABS-CBN’s Little Big Superstar to her Independence Day performance at the Quirino Grandstand where Tourism Secretary Ace Durano and President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo were in attendance. The offices of the two officials were later instrumental in helping Aria get to Hollywood for the WCOPA.

Aria will take part in the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ (CCP) Wagi!, a musical
celebration of Filipino victories in the performing arts with fellow WCOPA Grand Champions Jed Madela and Reymond Sajor under the musical direction of Ryan Cayabyab. The concert is set for February 15, 8 pm at the CCP Main Theater.

Rock with Kastigo

MYX MAGAZINE 3RD ISSUE...out now!!!

Executive Editor's Note:
2006 was an awesome year for MYX! One of my most unforgettable experiences was—MYX Mo! 2006, probably one of the most well-attended music events in Phlippine history.
MYX Mo! usually draws a varied group of concert-goers. Sure, there was the expected troop of guys in their black t-shirts (whom I believe are quite misunderstood) but there were just as many teenyboppers and even young kids who came from all over the metropolis and even from nearby provinces! To begin with, MYX Mo! was never and is not a rock concert per se. MYX Mo! is a concert that features all types of music from pop, acoustic, ballads, bossa nova, rock, hip-hop, r & b, etc.
Around 6:00 p.m., the crowd was really getting into it and the venue was fast getting filled. The energy escalated when Sandwich opened the Main Show together with the UST Yellow Jackets and UST Salinggawi Dancers. By this time, the audience had swelled to 60,000 plus and there were thousands more outside. I went onstage with the MYX VJs and welcomed everyone into the Main Show. Kamikazee then performed while Iya was shaving my head onstage.
While Imago was singing “Anino”, I was advised that the crowd outside was getting bigger and bigger - trying to get into the venue. We had to stop Imago’s set to talk to the audience and address the situation. There was no trouble with the people inside the venue, but it was the unruly crowd outside that was posing to be a problem.
We were informed that some criminally minded people started cutting the fences, this was the point when we decided to stop the concert. These individuals were not MYX Mo! concertgoers, they were people who came to the venue complete with bolt cutters. We are happy that the Pasay City authorities caught them and that nothing bad happened. But with that kind of security breach it would be difficult to continue the concert with more and more people still flocking to the CCP Open Grounds. With a heavy heart, I told the audience that we would no longer proceed. The public’s safety was our utmost priority and I knew we made the right decision.
So, for the nth time—no one was seriously hurt in MYX Mo! 2006. No one died in MYX Mo! 2006. There are certain individuals (I heard that there are some bands also) who continue to spread rumors and gossip that MYX had to stop the concert because someone died. I don’t know if they are just misinformed or downright malicious. We specifically decided to discontinue the show to prevent any untoward incident from happening.
To pick up where we left off, we produced Merry MYX Mo! on December 17. This was the first time that MYX did a 6 hour concert live on TV! We even had Apl D Ap of the Black Eyed Peas as a special guest! What a way to end our year! We thank all of you for your continued support.
